In the face of the oligarchy, the democracy of the crowds

Oligarchy. A word that summarizes the heart of crises that steal each other. The oligarchy is a concentration of wealth and powers in the hands of a handful of increasingly limited individuals. Fascinating elected officials, techno magicians, billionaires who create and use problems. It isolates individuals, destroys our culture and degrades our communities, and no longer hides their intention to build a reactive international.

The most worrying thing is that this oligarchy can be seen as a solution to the world order drifts over the past forty years, when it is just an extreme offspring. And Quebec is not immune to this authoritarian wave. We have to offer something else that progresses on the way radically opposite: on the way of democracy. We will have to prevent the imperfect democracy we have inherited. But above all, it will have to restore from top to bottom to meet our collective needs and aspirations.

In addition to simple participation in the elections, democracy in Quebec is still very lively. Civic groups, local elected officials, territorial struggles, community circles, social economy companies – there are many and many for initiatives in a number of territories. However, we must cross the case by case, speed up the step and create a real movement to allow us to democratically transform our society. If you want to get there, a new initiative is set up: crowds. We meet this project, with two specific priorities.

First, we have to bring people closer to people. Decentralization, release the territory, grant more powers to municipalities and regions, but also democratize their functioning by strengthening citizens’ participation and commitment to civil society. We need territorial guidance, which together create viable solutions to local communities. Many municipalities around the world speed up social change.

It is then necessary to bring the economy back to a democratic fold and give it to people and communities rather than for profit and growth service. We can better use certain tools that Quebec already knows: social economy, demarchandization of basic services, local economic development, solidarity, common finances, etc. We can also use our legal and legislative tools to fight for harmful advertising or put in multinational companies. And we can rely on these specific strategies in creating and implementing new socio -economic logic.

There will be other priorities. It is this basic work, this passion and this energy that will allow us to regain our collective autonomy, get out of helplessness and solve our problems, one by one. Decant and affordable housing, local and healthy food, means of transport until the 21st century, a living culture, and which creates a bond … Usually, they will be able to create a project of the socio -ecological transition of this new large -collective dream of We We need so much.

To get there, it requires the strength, an unusual political movement that is based on established executives, as well as a new way of organization, autonomous, agile, non -elertoral. A space that combines people from different environments, working with organizations and social movements that have lived these ideals for decades. That’s what the amount offers.

In this way, we can risk changes both specific and deep and embodied in public space. Identify a violation in the current system and use them to change our institutions. Do not take power, through election election election election elections, but today take the powers where they are: municipal councils, media, businesses and more. So we will be able to regain confidence in ourselves, with the desire to deal together, everywhere, on a larger scale.

And it starts now because time is running out. In the coming months we will be in the field with events throughout Quebec. It moves, the action window opens in the context of uncertainty, it is time to find, build our solidarity. Join us because we are a lot of evocation of the new world that already exists around us.
